Two gay men adopt six siblings

(Blogmensgo, gay blog of May 31, 2019) They got married and had many children. Eighteen years as a couple, engaged since 2006 and married since 2013. Steve Anderson-McLean and Rob Anderson-McLean had already raised two children from a previous marriage. On May 23, 2019, they officially adopted six siblings in Philadelphia. This is probably a record for adoption by same-sex couples. However, it is not a record in the number of siblings adopted by the same adoptive parents. Good Morning America showed that a heterosexual couple had already adopted seven siblings in Kansas in April 2019.

All is well that ends well

Prior to the adoption by Steve and Rob, the three brothers and three sisters had spent over four and a half years (exactly 1640 days) in foster families in Ohio. They were accommodated there after being victims of neglect and abuse (the exact nature of the abuse was not disclosed).

In the autumn of 2017, the parents officially lost their parenthood so that the six children could be fully adopted:

  1. Carlos, 14 years old
  2. Guadalupe, 13
  3. Maria, 12
  4. Selena, 10
  5. Nasa, 9
  6. Max, 7

Parker and Noah, the first two children of the couple Anderson-McLean, are now 25 and 21 years old respectively. Steve and Rob, who wanted to raise children again, came up with the idea of accepting a whole sibling couple after seeing a television report on the subject. In Ohio, the Youth Welfare Office has a website where they show the six children of the same family. There, the two men found the six children who for almost five years had only known simple foster families.

Love at first sight for fathers and children

This short video from GMA summarizes the facts…

The love at first sight between the gay fathers and the six children must have been mutual. Remotely at first, and then in reality since the first meeting in June 2018. Just one month later, the children came to their future adoptive parents and have all been living together in Pennsylvania since July 2018.

On May 23, 2019, less than a year after the first meeting, the official adoption took place. The celebration was led by a judge who seemed to be different from most others. His rhetorical question shows a lot of empathy:

Do you understand at this point forward they are your children? They are just as much as your biological children.

Carlos, Guadalupe, Maria, Selena, Nasa and Max are the new members of the Anderson-McLean family. Since this 23rd of May, they officially have a new family name and two parents, real ones. Two fathers who love them.
