The percentage of young LGBT persons who are completely out at their workplace depends very much on the geography: 60% in the UK, 52% in France and only 41% in Germany.
On the other hand, Germany is in the lead in terms of positive evaluation of being out of the closet at the workplace. 46% of the young German LGBT professionals consider it an advantage to be able to be themselves at work, compared to 40% in the UK and only 25% in France.
Bad marks for banks and insurances
Straight young professionals primarily look a the company’s prestige when choosing a new job. Young LGBTs however find it important that businesses practice inclusion and respect of diversity – ideally, a company should offer an LGBT network.
It is interesting that in all three countries, banks and insurances receive bad marks when it is about openness and acceptance of diversity.
Methodology of the study
A total of 1636 heterosexual and LGBT students and young professionals were asked for this online survey, which was performed in March and April of 2017 in France, the UK and Germany plus Austria.
