Bride Pride: No World Record but Good Success for Lesbian Weddings
(Blogmensgo, gay blog of October 19, 2016) On October 15, 2016, a total of 53 lesbian couples married or renewed their vows during a collective wedding celebration called Bride Pride in Provincetown, Massachusetts (USA). According to the organizers, this is a new world record for simultaneous lesbian weddings.
The celebration was organized by Roux, a bed & breakfast in Provincetown, which specializes in an LGBTQ clientele.
There were 25 “real” weddings and 28 renewals of vows, i.e. a total of 53 couples or 106 women. This was not enough for a new world record – considering that there is no such category as “Weddings combined with renewals of vows” in the Guinness Book of Records yet. In addition, at least 100 couples have to participate in such an event in order to qualify for an entry in the book.
Each couple had to pay $200 for participating (not counting the room rates), and there were couples form 15 different US states.
Comedian Kate Clinton hosted a show featuring two openly lesbian artists, folk musician Catie Curtis and pop/jazz singer and musician Suede, plus the two owners of Roux B&B and co-organizers of Bride Pride, Ilene Mitnick and Alli Baldwin.
In the following video clip, Catie Curtis is interpreting her song “Troubled Mind” as part of a trio:
Comment: This event had a large number of sponsors and partners, partly due to its LGBTQ message, but also because weddings are such a lucrative business in the US. In any case, we wish all (re-)newly-wed ladies all the best for their future.
