Sion Pride 2015

(Blogmensgo, gay blog of 19 June 2015) Some 8000 people participated on 13 June 2015, in the 14 th Gay Pride Romande in Sion in the Swiss canton of Valais.  Some patrol police took advantage of the great sunshine after finding the festive and peaceful nature of the event (officially titled Pride).

Nearly 5,000 people participated in the parade in the center of Sion, while 3,000 people attended the parade. The Pride 2015 will therefore recorded a peak of 15% to 30% higher than the expectations of the organizers. It is also twice that during the 2001 Pride of Sion.

This year, organizers have relied on 150 volunteers. It was only the second time that Pride was held in French-speaking Valais.

Although the organizers did not provide any dress or set of demands, slogans highlighted the struggle for equal rights. Not without humor, in the image of "Let's Valais the same" or "Combat queens for equality".

The Socialist Stéphane Rossini , National Advisor (deputy) of Valais and President of the National Council (lower house parliamentary representation), said he was "happy to break the taboo that homosexuality is a disease or weakness of nature” .

Several divergent voices, including that of Jean-Marie Lovey, Bishop of Sion, had spoken against holding a Gay Pride in Valais in general and especially in Sion, on the grounds that homosexuality does not conform to their conception of human nature.

Relatives of the far right had created upstream of the event, a Facebook page hostile to the Pride of Sion. Members of a fundamentalist splinter group of Catholic priests had even announced the holding of a demonstration against-which ultimately did not happen.

Having already hosted the Pride Romade in 2013, Fribourg retake the role next year.  The actual parade will be held on June 25, 2016, but stamped pride events will be help from 24 to 26 June 2015.
