The Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church wants to ban Gay Pride in Belgrade…again
(Blogmensgo, 5 October 2012) Irenaeus of Niš, Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, asked the Prime Minister Ivica Dačić, as Minister of the Interior, to prohibit the Belgrade Gay Pride scheduled for October 6, 2012 . The bishop invokes alleged outrages caused by this "parade of shame." Gay Pride was banned at the last minute in 2011 by the Minister of the Interior, citing security concerns (see our article on October 4, 2011).

Patriarch Irenaeus (or Irenej) whose real name is Miroslav Gavrilović, affirms that the photographic exhibition Ecce Homo Swedish artist Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin is "deeply offensive." The opening of the exhibition is expected tonight as part of a week of Gay Pride, which the prelate, "casts a heavy shadow of morality on our city, our Christian culture and the dignity of our families."
Several shots of the exhibition include such of Jesus with homosexual, transsexual or AIDS infected people, like a parody of the Last Supper (see the photo that illustrates this article). It also shows the ablutions of Jesus’ sex.
Birgitta Ohlsson, Swedish Minister for European Affairs, announced that she would speak at Gay Pride. Her visible presence in the procession and the forum is both an "act of solidarity" and a test of freedom of expression in Serbia.
The Serbian Prime Minister does not, like last year, at the last moment plan to ban Gay Pride Belgrade for security reasons.
