(Blogmensgo, February 14, 2013) According to an Ifop poll for Femme actuelle (a French weekly) of 6 February 2013 on the unusual couples, the French state not being “uncomfortable” with the homosexual couples, but a significant minority of respondents expressed discomfort.

The survey asked: “Each of the following types of couples putting you uncomfortable?”
A couple composed of two men is 43% of French uncomfortable against 57% saying not being uncomfortable. Discomfort for 48% of men, while it does not bother that 38% of women.
A lesbian couple is uncomfortable 41% of respondents against 59% who do not experience any discomfort. Again men are 43% to be bothered by female homosexuality, against 40% of women.

Other forms of atypical couples the French are “uncomfortable” in similar proportions. For example, couples where the woman is much older than the man put 41% of French people uncomfortable (against 59% who say not to be so). But when it is the man who is much older than the woman, does such a couple uncomfortable that 33% of respondents, while 67% do not experience any discomfort.

Comment. pity that details of the survey are not available online at the time this article was written.  I’m curious to see if the questionnaire included more detailed questions, if only to check out what, precisely, is the brave French “uncomfortable” about.

The fact that the survey was conducted online, but also and especially just before, during and after the homophobic demonstrations were held on January 13 – that’s a double bias unlikely to strengthen a priori credibility of such a survey.

(Blogmensgo, June 5th, 2012) Senators from California have passed the third reading on May 30, 2012, by 23 votes against 13 (with one abstention), a bill prohibiting therapy to change sexual orientation. Presented by two elected Democrats, Senator Ted W Lieu  and deputy Fiona Ma, the text must now be voted by the Assembly of California, and also a Democratic majority.

The Proposed law SB 1172: HTML | PDF

The bill intends to amend the California Code of commerce and professions. This is especially to explicitly prohibit any therapist, regardless of denomination, to interfere in any way to modify or reverse the sexual orientation of a minor.

This prohibition applies to any case, even if the therapy is desired, granted or imposed by the minor or his parents. The preamble of the text is perfectly clear about this. “Being lesbian, gay or bisexual is neither a disease nor a disorder, or failure or defect. “This means that there is no need to treat it and that homosexuality does not need these so-called” reparative therapies “. “The medical profession as a whole is hostile to these practices,” says Senator Lieu

No State of the United States prohibits such practices today. California would become, if applicable, the first to do so. The text, once validated by the House of Representatives from California, will still be initialed by the very gay-friendly governor Jerry Brown.

(Blogmensgo, May 2nd, 2012) Believing that Nicolas Sarkozy puts his weight against LGBT rights while “François Hollande makes clear commitments to equal rights,” Inter-LGBT name to vote for the Socialist candidate. It is not to vote for / against a political party, says the Inter-LGBT in a press release of April 25, 2012, but to vote for / against a personality and a vision.

Recalling that Nicolas Sarkozy has not kept his key promises of 2007 for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community, the collective of French associations notes that the right-wing candidate “uses LGBT issues (and its opposition to equal rights) in its campaign to reassure the most conservative fringe of the electorate and coax voters attracted by the ideas of Le Pen in the first round” of the presidential election.

Francois Hollande, however, is ostensibly more favorable to LGBT rights, particularly gay marriage, homoparental adoption, simplification of marital status change for the trans community and the fight against transphobia.

This is the first time since 2002 (where the candidate of the extreme right, Jean-Marie Le Pen, had arrived in the second round of presidential elections) that Inter-LGBT gives an instruction to vote. Nicolas Gougain, spokesman for the group, recalls not having advocated a choice in 2007 as the Socialist candidate, Ségolène Royal, was far less proactive on LGBT rights than his now ex-partner François Hollande. But the call to vote Holland is not “signing a blank check to the candidate,” he warns.

Inter-LGBT take this opportunity to point out that the main French Gay Prides have the slogan “2012, equality is just waiting.”

Comment. The campaign team of François Hollande includes a cell dedicated to LGBT issues, hosted by Gilles Bon-Maury and Michael Teychenne. Nothing alike in the candidate Sarkozy.
