(Blogmensgo, gay blog of November 23, 2015) On 17 November 2015, Klaus Burkart, the German winner of the Mister Gay World competition of May 2015 announced his resignation. His runner-off, Emmanuel Mass Luciano from Hong Kong, succeeded him, effective immediately.
Klaus Burkart, aged 21, was the youngest winner of the competition. He wrote an open letter to his fans and friends, in which he justifies his withdrawal by “personal changes in my life.” No more details at this point.
So the crown of Mister Gay World 2015 was passed to 35-year-old Emmanuel Mass Luciano who already holds the title of Mister Gay Hong Kong. Born in Puerto Rico, Mass Luciano works as a fashion designer and sells his own line of clothes called Mass. Before moving to Hong Kong, he had lived in Los Angeles and in Florence.
In his brief inauguration speech (see below), he points out that he want to use his media exposure to sensitize the public to HIV and AIDS, particularly in Asia where the pandemic is still the cause of many deaths.
As a side note: Former Mister Gay World (editions 2010), Charl van den Berg, died of lymphoma on 6 August 2015 at the age of 33.
