(Blogmensgo, February 4, 2013) The General Meeting of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is considering to repeal on February 6, 2013, the statutory provision that prohibits access until now gays in the scouts. The BSA has launched a debate on the issue on January 28. On 3 February, President Barack Obama encouraged the BSA to get rid of the shackles homophobic.
[ Update . After postponing its decision in May 2013 instead of February, the BSA finally took a half-measure, cf. our update at the very end of the article, after the comment.]
The ban on gays in the BSA for both the children and the adult participants. The BSA was founded in 1910, reiterated the ban nationwide in 2012.
If the BSA repealed national prohibition, it is likely it would leave each of its antennas enact its own local regulations of sexual orientation. It would therefore not be a total abandonment of restrictions against gays in the Boy Scouts and their supervisors, but simply abandoned at the federal level.

President Obama invites the scouts to take that first step. In an interview with CBS (see also the above video, it starts - after a mandatory pub - at 1:20 and it lasts less than a minute), Barack Obama says his feelings:
"My opinion is that gays and lesbians should have the same inputs and opportunities as anyone else, regardless of the institution or the community. '
Unlike their male counterparts, Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA) no longer take account of the postulants sexual orientation since 1991. The local branch of the women's organization in Colorado even accept transgender girls (boys who feel they have a female identity) since October 2011.
============ Update June 4, 2013. BSA finally decided on 23 May 2013, to accept gays if they are minors and continue to prohibit the presence of Gays within management teams. This decision was taken at a general meeting by 61.44% of votes. This means that gays can climb all the hierarchical levels as it is minor, but it will normally be ejected from the organization when he reaches the age of 18.
"The ban on gay adult supervisors will also necessarily disappear", commented on here the gay and lesbian alliance against defamation ( Glaad ) while welcoming a "significant victory" for young gay scouts and calling for the mobilization total victory.
This new statutory provision will not take effect until 2014. Meanwhile, gays are officially banned from Scouting in the United States. The Boy Scouts and adult supervisors Salt Lake City defied the ban and participated in uniform, on June 2, 2013, the Gay Pride in Utah , as shown here.
BSA unites 110,000 troops totaling 2.7 million boys and adolescents (almost half of scouts in 1972) framed by 1 million volunteers working through member organizations of which 70% are religious in nature. Many of these religious organizations, considering homosexuality as a sin, were once imposed on the U.S. Scouting to be "morally right" (morally straight ), so straight (in English, straight also means heterosexual ), while the original charter desired by Robert Baden-Powell Scouting did not require it.
Two religious organizations, the Mormons and the United Methodist Church ( UMC ), are among the main sponsors of the American Scouting. They led to the adoption of new rules by the BSA know they did not oppose it.
The reluctance of BSA against gays can be explained by his desire not to lose its main financial support that are more or less openly religious homophobic organizations. However, the discrimination of gays has caused him to lose the gifts of leading companies such as Merck, Intel and UPS.
As for the disenchantment of young Americans for Scouting, it is due to the recurrence of cases of sexual abuse and the inability of BSA to attract young people from black, Hispanic minorities, atheists and homosexuals.
